Every week, our entire school comes together for a Community Meeting. Our diverse community is the linchpin of our mission. Every scholar and staff member attends and any family member is invited. On Fridays, our school is packed with people and overflowing with excitement. Scholars of the Week lead cheers, we review our F.I.R.S.T. Habits and community commitments, and our entire school sings or performs.
Our school prides itself on our use of the core knowledge sequence. Our curriculum has been profiled in Chalkbeat and The Tennessean, too. As a result of our curriculum and hard-working teachers, Nashville Classical‘s minority and low-income students score 2.5 times higher than their district peers on standardized tests in reading.
Ultimately, school culture is not one thing -- it’s everything. It’s how people walk, talk, and act. We think school should be a place where children can’t wait to come every morning. In fact, our warm, joyful morning routine was profiled in The Tennessean. Staff members receive 25+ days of professional development to support growth and personal advancement aligned with individual goals.
Likewise, over the past two years, we have retained above 85% of our teachers and have launched innovative childcare partnerships and other benefits to attract and retain top talent.
Through Cigna, we offer three Open Access Plus (OAP) medical plans, two dental plans and one vision plan. You’ll gain access to providers through one of the largest networks in the US, with the option of adding dependents at competitive rates. Coverage begins the 1st of the month following your date of hire.
We offer all birthing staff eight weeks of 100% paid parental leave and non-birthing staff six weeks after 30 days of service. Additionally, we offer fertility coverage for treatments, medications, and artificial reproductive technologies through Cigna.
Nashville Classical will match your contributions to your pre-tax benefit account for eligible childcare expenses 2:1, up to $5,000. If you contribute $1,667 per plan year, NCCS will contribute the remaining $3,333!
We offer life insurance and long-term disability insurance at no cost to employees, giving you peace of mind. Voluntary short-term disability insurance can be added at a small premium to employees.
School-based staff members receive eight personal and sick PTO (paid time off) days each school year in addition to school holidays and breaks. Central office staff, who do not receive a Summer Break, have eighteen PTO days per school year.
Staff who teach (or have previously taught) in TN will receive automatic contributions to TCRS and Empower’s 401k program. Support staff are also eligible to contribute to their 401k.
We offer monthly fitness subsidies for YMCA and ClassPass memberships, on the job professional development, and opportunities to expand your role as an educational leader.
